Unsheltered or at risk of homelessness? The ‘Front Door’ to Housing Services

DHS, 2-1-1 & AfterHours (585) 442-1742

Anyone who is currently homeless or at risk of being homeless, and is in need of emergency housing must go in person to the Monroe County Department of Human Services (DHS) at 691 St. Paul Street to be assessed for placement.  The DHS “after hours” information line is (585) 442-1742 for after-hours placement. During non-business hours, call the DHS AfterHours number at (585) 442-1742 for emergency shelter placement. Leave a message. They will call you back (the callback can take longer than one hour).

Anyone in crisis can call 2 -1 -1 for tele-counseling, information & referral. They provide referral information to DHS, or in immediate situations assist with advocacy. When you can’t get to DHS St Paul Street, these two numbers (2-1-1 and (585) 442-1742) are the “front door” to Monroe County’s emergency shelter system.
